This is an interesting poem from Palamozhi nanooru. Palamozhi nanooru is stuctured in such way that last line of the poem is Palamozhi (proverb) and the poet uses first two lines to describe a story or usage of the proverb. This proverb tells about use of Kumki elephants to capture wild elephants. This shows the ancient nature use of Kumki elephants. Also the proverb talks about wise men befriending other wise men to prevent them from becoming foes. These proverbs were considered old age saying 1300 years ago.

On a second look the proverb is lift from Thirukkural, which is atleast 200 years older than this poem.
வினையான் வினையாக்கிக் கோடல் நனைகவுள்
யானையால் யானையாத் தற்று. ( குறள் எண் : 678 )
Get a deed done while working on another like using a wet cheek (elephant in rut)
elephant to capture another elephant.
This one is much closer to what we have seen in Kumki movie!
There is possibility that this could have been a proverb even in the times of Thiruvalluvar.
