ஐங்குறுநூறு 299 கபிலர், குறிஞ்சித் திணை – தலைவன் தன்நெஞ்சிடம் சொன்னது

குன்ற நாடன் குன்றத்துக் கவாஅன்,
பைஞ்சுனைப் பூத்த பகுவாய்க் குவளையும்,
அம் சில் ஓதி அசை நடைக் கொடிச்சி
கண் போல் மலர்தலும் அரிது, இவள்
தன் போல் சாயல் மஞ்ஞைக்கும் அரிதே.
குன்ற நாடன் குன்றத்துக் கவாஅன்,

Even the waterlilies blooming wide

in the fresh streams of Thalaivan (man from hillock)’s

mountain slopes

would not be as beautiful as the

blooming of the eyes of this girl

with beautiful ornamented hair and swaying walk!

Even a peacock cannot match her beauty!

மலை நாடன் மலைகளில் உள்ளப்  பசுமையான சுனையில்

பூக்கும் பருத்த வாயைக்  கொண்டக் குவளையும் கூட

அழகியக் கூந்தலும் அசைகின்ற நடையும் கொண்ட

மலைமகள் கண்கள் பூப்பதுப் போல் இல்லை!

ஒரு அழகிய மயில் கூட அவள் அழகிற்கு நிகர் இல்லை!

See the comparision – Kuvalai is water lilly. The girls eye is much more beautiful than bloom of the lilly. She is more beautiful than a peacock.
