முற்பெரிய நல்வினை முட்டின்றிச் செய்யாதார்
பிற்பெரிய செல்வம் பெறலாமோ? – வைப்போடு
இகலிப் பொருள்செய்ய எண்ணியக்கால் என்னாம்?
‘முதல்இலார்க்(கு) ஊதியம் இல்’.
One who has not done good deeds without any obstacles in his past (life)
can he think of big wealth now (in this life)?
Seeing others treasure/possessions and can one think of amassing wealth to compete with them?
One without capital investment never gains profit!

The last line is especially haunting when you consider – ஊதியம் also means Learning/ கல்வி
Alternatively last line can be translated as
“One without Capital investment cannot expect any education !” – isn’t it so relevant to current situations?

பிற்பெரிய செல்வம் பெறலாமோ? – வைப்போடு
later (life) – big – wealth – can acquire? treasure (of others)
இகலிப் பொருள்செய்ய எண்ணியக்கால் என்னாம்?
compete -wealth gain – to think – create/arrange – can think (sarcastically)
‘முதல்இலார்க்(கு) ஊதியம் இல்’.
capital – without – profit/benefit/learning – not possible
