மா வாராதே! மா வாராதே!
எல்லார் மாவும் வந்தன; எம் இல்
புல் உளைக் குடுமிப் புதல்வன் தந்த
செல்வன் ஊரும் மா வாராதே!
இரு பேர் யாற்ற ஒரு பெருங்கூடல்
விலங்கிடு பெருமரம் போல,
உலந்தன்று கொல், அவன் மலைந்த மாவே?
Horse has not come! Horse has not come!
Everyone’s horse has come,
Yet horse of the rich man
Of my house who gave me
The Boy
with tawny mane like topknot
Has not come!
Like a tree
which stood in the meeting place
of two great rivers
Has the horse ,
he rode to the war,
fallen?

செல்வன் ஊர்ந்துச் சென்றக்
குதிரை வரவில்லை!
இரு பெரும் ஆறுகள் ஒன்றுகூடும்
இடத்தின் கண் நின்ற பெருமரம் போல
வீழ்ந்து விட்டதோ ,
அவன் போருக்கு ஊர்ந்துச்
சென்றக் குதிரை?
