Situation:
Thalaivi (Heroine) was in love with Thalaivan (Hero) and eloped with him due to objection from her family for their wedding. Here her foster mother utters the poem saying that she is only a mother by name and it was her friends who did her duties, mocking her friends.

ஐங்குறுநூறு 380, ஓதலாந்தையார், பாலைத் திணை – செவிலித்தாய் சொன்னது
அத்த நீள் இடை அவனொடு போகிய,
முத்து ஏர் வெண்பல் முகிழ் நகை மடவரல்
தாயர் என்னும் பெயரே வல்லாறு
எடுத்தேன் மன்ற யானே,
கொடுத்தோர் மன்ற அவள் ஆயத்தோரே.

muttu ēr veṇpal mukiḻ nakai maṭavaral
tāyar eṉṉum peyarē vallāṟu
eṭuttēṉ maṉṟa yāṉē,
koṭuttōr maṉṟa avaḷ āyattōrē.

கடினமான நீண்ட பாதையில் அவனோடு போய்விட்ட
முத்துப் போல் அழகிய வெண்மையான பற்களையும், புன்சிரிப்பு கொண்ட இளம்பெண்ணின்
தாய் என்ற பெயரை பெயருக்குத்தான்
பெற்றிருக்கிறேன் நான்;
அவளை அவனுக்குக் கொடுத்து அனுப்பிவைத்தவர்கள் அவளின் தோழியரே!

with beautiful smile
and pearl like white teeth,
Who has eloped with her lover
in the long rough path!

கடினமான நீண்ட பாதையில் அவனோடு போய்விட்ட

Rough path – long – way/distance – with him – went

முத்து ஏர் வெண்பல் முகிழ் நகை மடவரல்

muttu ēr veṇpal mukiḻ nakai maṭavaral

முத்துப் போல் அழகிய வெண்மையான பற்களையும், புன்சிரிப்பு கொண்ட இளம்பெண்ணின்

Pearl – fine/good  – white teeth – beautiful – smile – naive girl

தாயர் என்னும் பெயரே வல்லாறு

tāyar eṉṉum peyarē vallāṟu

தாய் என்ற பெயரை  பெயருக்குத்தான்

Mother – say – name – best possible

எடுத்தேன் மன்ற யானே,

eṭuttēṉ maṉṟa yāṉē,

பெற்றிருக்கிறேன் நான்;

Get – certainly – I

கொடுத்தோர் மன்ற அவள் ஆயத்தோரே.

koṭuttōr maṉṟa avaḷ āyattōrē.

அவளை அவனுக்குக் கொடுத்து அனுப்பிவைத்தவர்கள் அவளின் தோழியரே!

Gave – certainly – her – companions
