Save me from the Lust for women -Patinathar poem

O Ekampa of Kanchi,Lord,

arise and give me grace

not to fall into the pit

that spurts out

blood and filth!

Into the pith of women,

in their hollow trap,

women who invite

this leather bag stuffed

which I daily stuffed

with quantities of flesh and rice,

this putrid, stinking body-

a sack for jackals,

vile and full of vice.

Poet: Pattinathar

Patinathar had very cynical views over things around him. He begs to the lord to save him from the Lust for women. He usually describes women vagina to pit that spurts out blood and filth (menstruating women) and describes himself as a leather bag filled with food and a stinking body. I have quoted another poem where he curses himself for loving his mortal body.

I loved this mortal vessel

stuffed with blabbering air,

this leather – bag for rice ,

this torn sack wrapped in flesh,

this stinking body,

cow-stable of lust,

and roamed about and begged,

o Ekampa of Kanci,

Lord!
