இனிய பொங்கல் நல்வாழ்த்துக்கள்! Happy pongal!

Blogging after a year! My apologies! This is a comic I made nearly a year ago but didn’t publish it due to certain issues. Since I have graduated from my MBA, I have no other excuse not to blog, hence I forced myself to upload these files.

The situation:

The Thinai crop (millet) is drying without rain…Thalaivi looks really worried.. Panki(thalaivi’s friend) appeases her through these poem.

அன்னாய், வாழி! வேண்டு, அன்னை! நன்றும்

உணங்கல கொல்லோ, நின் தினையே? உவக்காண்

நிணம் பொதி வழுக்கின் தோன்றும்,

மழை தலைவைத்து, அவர் மணி நெடுங் குன்றே.

‘மழையின்மையால் தினை உணங்கும்; விளையமாட்டா; புனங்காப்பச் சென்று அவரை எதிர்ப்படலாம் என்று எண்ணியிருந்த இது கூடாதாயிற்று’ என வெறுத்திருந்த தலைமகட்குத் தோழி சொல்லியது.

Long live my dear friend,

please give me your attentive ears,

prosperity of your millet is yet

to be killed by the rotting behold,

see Thalaivan’s tall blue mountains,

it looks like

the meat with slimy fat

on the top

with rain clouds as its crown.

அன்னாய், வாழி! வேண்டு, அன்னை! நன்றும்

Female companion- long live!, Female companion! prosperity,

உணங்கல கொல்லோ, நின் தினையே? உவக்காண்

to dry – kill/harvest, your- Italian millet? see where you are

நிணம் பொதி வழுக்கின் தோன்றும்,

meat – hide/conceal/cover up – slimy substance on fat – to appear,

மழை தலைவைத்து, அவர் மணி நெடுங் குன்றே.

rain cloud – head-lay upon, his(thalaivan) sapphire(dark blue) – tall – hill.
