Realize the god in you – Civavakkiyam

 

Vedas didn’t believe in idol worship. [I am student of DAV, school of Arya Samaj which was found with sole purpose to propagate that idol worship is not prescribed by Vedas and the needs to go back to Vedic roots. I was indoctrinated with Arya Samaj principles for 12 years. So people who want to put comments opposing the view give me proof from Vedas. Arya Samaj  incidentally was also the first Hindu organization to reconvert non Hindus to Hindus – the pre independence version of Ghar wapsi]. Indigenous people of the country believed in idol worship. Vedic hinduism adopted to idol worship and took control of it and still schools of philosophy expounded the ideology of formless nature of God. One such school of thought from Tantric origins where the Siddha school of thought. Tamil Sidhha movement were more oriented toward journey of knowledge, who believed only through knowledge one can realize the god, as against the popular form of Hinduism the Bakthi movement. Tamil Sitthar’s literary movement started with Thirumoolar. The later Siddhas especially Civavakkiyar was very critical against mainstream Hinduism.  He criticized idol worship and people running after temples. His philosophy was God is in you realize him.  You will see more of Civvakkiyar in the next few weeks.

என்னிலே இருந்தஒன்றை யான் அறிந்து கொண்டபின்

என்னிலே இருந்தஒன்றை யாவர் காண வல்லரோ

என்னிலே இருந்திருந்து யான்உ ணர்ந்து கொண்டெனே.

I was not aware of the one who was residing in me.

When I understood that there was one who was residing in me

When every one else could feel difference of the one residing in me

I realized the one who was residing in me.
