Your bard is a liar – Ainkurunooru 43

Situation: Thalaivan (Hero) is married with Thalaivi (Heroine). Thalaivan is having extra martial affair and spends most nights away from home. Thalaivi is upset and he sends his bard (also his messenger) to assuage Thalaivi. Here Thalaivi utters this poem to Thalaivan saying the Bard makes false promises and is better liar than Thalaivan, meaning though Bard said, Thalaivan will return soon, he didn’t return as promised. Both of them were not trustworthy.

ஐங்குறுநூறு 43, ஓரம்போகியார், மருதத் திணை – தலைவி தலைவனிடம் சொன்னது
அம்பணத்து அன்ன யாமை ஏறிச்,
செம்பின் அன்ன பார்ப்புப் பல துஞ்சும்
யாணர் ஊர! நின்னினும்
பாணன் பொய்யன், பல் சூளினனே.

aiṅkuṟunūṟu 43, ōrampōkiyār, marutat tiṇai – talaivi talaivaṉiṭam coṉṉatu
ampaṇattu aṉṉa yāmai ēṟic,
cempiṉ aṉṉa pārppup pala tuñcum
yāṇar ūra! niṉṉiṉum
pāṇaṉ poyyaṉ, pal cūḷiṉaṉē.

my man from the wealthy city,
small copper pot like young tortoise
climb up their mother
who is like a measuring bowl!
Your bard is a better liar
with many promises!

Notes:

Mother tortoise carrying the hatchlings -> Thalaivi taking full responsibility for children while Thalaivan is irresponsible and roaming around

உன்னுடைய பாணன் பொய் அதிகம் சொல்லக்கூடியவன்; பல பொய்யான வாக்குகள் கொடுப்பவன்.

உன்னுடைய பாணன் பொய் அதிகம் சொல்லக்கூடியவன்; பல பொய்யான வாக்குக்கொடுப்பவன்.
