Situation: Thalaivan (Hero) is married to Thalaivi (Heroine). He plans to leave her in search of wealth. Thozhi (Thalaivi’s friend) advises Thalaivi that Thalaivan was considerate and wise, will not leave her in search of wealth (To participate possibly in China-India-Rome trade).

தொழில்தான் ஆண்களுக்கு உயிர்; ஒளிபொருந்திய நெற்றியையுடைய
Work is – for men – life – bright forehead
மனை உறை மகளிர்க்கு ஆடவர் உயிரென
maṉai uṟai makaḷirkku āṭavar uyireṉa
வீட்டில் வாழும் பெண்களுக்கு ஆண்களே உயிராவார் என்று
House – reside – for women – men – life
நமக்கு உரைத்தோரும் தாமே,
namakku uraittōrum tāmē,
நமக்கு உரைத்தவரும் அவரே!
For us – whenever he speaks – he only
அழாஅல் தோழி, அழுங்குவர் செலவே.
aḻāal tōḻi, aḻuṅkuvar celavē.
அழவேண்டாம் தோழி! பயணத்தை தவிர்த்துவிடுவார்!
