Situation: Thalaivan (Hero) is married to Thalaivi (heroine). He plans to leave her in search of wealth (probably to participate in Indo Roman trade). Thozhi (Thalaivi’s friend) advises Thalaivan either to stay put or take his wife along with him.
Just imagine impact of IT on daily life of people in Tamil Nadu. People living in cities and rushing back to native [bus stand scenes on festival days]. Go 2000 years back, Indo-Roman trade had same impact on lives of people. Men wanting to making money by moving goods from east to west coast or vice versa to participate in Rome-India-China trade. They had to rush back to families on time they promised and Families wouldn’t know if they are safe or alive during this period, due to lack of communication.
ஐங்குறுநூறு 303, ஓதலாந்தையார், பாலைத் திணை – தோழி தலைவனிடம் சொன்னது
புதுக் கலத்து அன்ன கனிய ஆலம்,
போகில் தனைத் தடுக்கும் வேனில் அருஞ்சுரம்,
தண்ணிய இனியவாக,
எம்மொடுஞ் சென்மோ விடலை நீயே.

putuk kalattu aṉṉa kaṉiya ālam,
pōkil taṉait taṭukkum vēṉil aruñcuram,
taṇṇiya iṉiyavāka,
emmoṭuñ ceṉmō viṭalai nīyē.

பறவைகள் விட்டு பறந்துச் செல்ல இயலாமல் தடுக்கும் கடும் வெப்பம் கொண்ட நிழலற்ற நிலம்
குளிர்ச்சியாகவும், இனிமையாகவும் ஆகிவிடும்
அவளை நீ உன்னோடு அழைத்துச் சென்றால்!

Even the summer on the bare torrid land
Which blocks the departure of the birds
From the banyan tree
Which yielded fruits
looking like fresh clay pots
will be cool to her,

தண்ணிய இனியவாக,
taṇṇiya iṉiyavāka,
குளிர்ச்சியாகவும், இனிமையாகவும் ஆகிவிடும்
Cool – sweet
எம்மொடுஞ் சென்மோ விடலை நீயே.
emmoṭuñ ceṉmō viṭalai nīyē.
என்னை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு சென்றால், விடலையான நீயே!
