Situation: Thalaivi (Hero) is in love with Thalaivan (hero), but he is avoiding her in fear of village gossip. Thalaivi utters this poem so that Thalaivan can over hear it and feel guilty.

ஐங்குறுநூறு 118, அம்மூவனார், நெய்தல் திணை – தலைவி தோழியிடம் சொன்னது, சிறைப்புறத்தானாக இருந்த தலைவன் கேட்கும்படி
அம்ம வாழி தோழி! யான் இன்று
அறன் இலாளன் கண்ட பொழுதில்,
சினவுவென், தகைக்குவென் சென்றனென்,
பின் நினைந்து, இரங்கிப் பெயர்தந்தேனே.

ciṉavuveṉ, takaikkuveṉ ceṉṟaṉeṉ,
piṉ niṉaintu, iraṅkip peyartantēṉē.

அவனைத் தடுத்துக் கோவத்தில் திட்டுவேன் என்று எண்ணிச் சென்றேன்,
பின்னர் அவனை நினைந்து மனம் இரங்கி ஒன்றும் சொல்லாமல் அவனைக்கடந்து சென்றேன்!

அறன் இலாளன் கண்ட பொழுதில்,

aṟaṉ ilāḷaṉ kaṇṭa poḻutil,

ஆறம் இல்லாத என் காதலனை கண்ட பொழுதில்

justice/grace – Man not having – see – time

சினவுவென், தகைக்குவென் சென்றனென்,

ciṉavuveṉ, takaikkuveṉ ceṉṟaṉeṉ,

அவனைத் தடுத்துக் கோவத்தில் திட்டுவேன் என்று எண்ணிச் சென்றேன்,

Angry thought – block / tease – went away

பின் நினைந்து, இரங்கிப் பெயர்தந்தேனே.

piṉ niṉaintu, iraṅkip peyartantēṉē.

பின்னர் அவனை நினைந்து மனம் இரங்கி ஒன்றும் சொல்லாமல் அவனைக்கடந்து சென்றேன்!
