Situation: Thalaivan (hero) is married to Thalaivi (heroine), he has turned rouge and spends his days and nights with other women. When he returns to his house one day, Thalaivi utters this poem.

ஐங்குறுநூறு 63, ஓரம்போகியார், மருதத் திணை – தலைவி தலைவனிடம் சொன்னது
பொய்கைப் பள்ளிப் புலவு நாறு நீர்நாய்,
வாளை நாள் இரை பெறூஉம் ஊர!
எம் நலம் தொலைவது ஆயினும்,
துன்னலம் பெரும, பிறர்த் தோய்ந்த மார்பே.

aiṅkuṟunūṟu 63, ōrampōkiyār, marutat tiṇai – talaivi talaivaṉiṭam coṉṉatu
poykaip paḷḷip pulavu nāṟu nīrnāy,
vāḷai nāḷ irai peṟūum ūra!
em nalam tolaivatu āyiṉum,
tuṉṉalam peruma, piṟart tōynta mārpē.

என் குணநலன்கள் முற்றிலும் தொலைவது ஆயினும்
தழுவ மாட்டேன் தலைவனே, பிற மகளிர் அணைத்த உன் மார்பை!

Man from the town
where otter reeking smell of flesh
residing in the pond
gets loach fish as day prey
I would not embrace your chest
Which has been embraced by others
Even if it means I would lose my beauty!

பொய்கையில் வாழும் மாமிச நாற்றத்தையுடைய நீர்நாய்

வாளை நாள் இரை பெறூஉம் ஊர!

வாளை மீனை தன் தின இரையாகப் பெறும் ஊரைச் சேர்ந்தவனே!

எம் நலம் தொலைவது ஆயினும்,

em nalam tolaivatu āyiṉum,

என் குணநலன்கள் முற்றிலும் தொலைவது ஆயினும்

My – beauty/virtue/good – lose – even so

துன்னலம் பெரும, பிறர்த் தோய்ந்த மார்பே.

தழுவ மாட்டேன் தலைவனே, பிற மகளிர் அணைத்த உன் மார்பை!
