Notes:
புத்தேள் நாடும் – puttēḷ nāṭum – God’s country – Deva Lokha?

Alkul – straight meaning is pubic mons, vaginal area. This is the primary meaning used in Sangam literature. Women’s beauty is described by her breast and vaginal areas in these poems. Avoiding recency bias (of victorian era costumes), being topless or naked were common due to weather in Ancient India and Tribal cultures. Translators and commentators usually avoid this meaning to make poems palatable for all readers. They usually use waist or side as a substitute.

அல்குல் alkul (p. 140) – n. < id. [M. alkiṭam.] 1. Side; பக்கம். கவைத்தாம்பு தொடுத்த காழூன் றல் குல் (பெரும்பாண். 244). 2. Waist; அரை. பூந்து கில்சே ரல்குல் காமரெழில் விழலுடுத்து (திவ். பெரு மாள். 9, 7). 3. Pudendum muliebre; பெண்குறி. (திருக்கோ. 9.)

விரி திரைப் பெருங்கடல் வளைஇய உலகமும்

viri tiraip peruṅkaṭal vaḷaiiya ulakamum

விரிந்த அலைகளையுடைய பெருங்கடல்  சூழப்பட்ட இந்த உலகமும்,

large/vast – wave – ocean – surround – world

அரிது பெறு சிறப்பின் புத்தேள் நாடும்

aritu peṟu ciṟappiṉ puttēḷ nāṭum

அரிதில் பெறக்கூடிய சிறப்புடைய தெய்வங்களின் நாடும்,

Rare – get – greatness – gods – country

இரண்டும் தூக்கின் சீர் சாலாவே,

iraṇṭum tūkkiṉ cīr cālāvē,

இரண்டையும் சீர்தூக்கிப் பார்த்தால் ஈடு இல்லை

Both – weigh/lift  – equal/equlibrium –  fitting not

பூப் போல் உண்கண் பொன் போல் மேனி

pūp pōl uṇkaṇ poṉ pōl mēṉi

பூப்போன்ற மைபூசிய கண்களையும், பொன் போன்ற மேனியையும்,

மாண் வரி அல்குல் குறுமகள்

அழகிய வரிகளைக் கொண்ட அல்குலையும் உடைய இளம் பெண்ணின்

தோள் மாறுபடூஉம் வைகலொடு எமக்கே.
